This Monday, August 17 marks the third anniversary of the McDougall Creek wildfire and the evacuation of Judith and her husband, Lorenzo. Their neighbourhood was among the hardest hit, with half of its 32 homes destroyed and the remaining homes suffering significant damage.
Finding the Phoenix shares Judith’s experience of the wildfire and evacuation, with its title reflecting a message of finding light amidst the darkness. With the recent wildfires in our community, the anniversary is particularly meaningful for Judith and many others who were directly affected by the events of 2023.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book is donated toward wildfire prevention and mitigation efforts in West Kelowna. This focus was suggested by Fire Chief Jason Brolund, based on the importance of investing in mitigation and prevention before wildfires occur.
The book is available on Amazon and other online platforms, as well as locally at Mosaic Books in downtown Kelowna. Judith is also happy to sign copies for fellow Rotary members.
