Waterpark officially begins

June 27, 2011 – The official sod-turning ceremony to start the construction of the Westbank Centre waterpark took place with representatives of the District of West Kelowna council, Westbank Rotary Club, West Kelowna Daybreak Rotary Club, Waterplay, Kids Care and Westbank First Nations in attendance. The concept for the park originated in 2007 with the Westbank Rotary Club who approached the municipality and began fundraising. By early 2010 the escalating costs nearly collapsed the project and West Kelowna Daybreak Rotary was asked to get involved by donating civil engineering services to try to get the planning and construction completed within the funding budget. Our engineers and club “Rotarians of the Year” Bruce Dalrymple and Gary Young accomplished this and will be working at the site all summer to get it completed by September 2011. Thank you, gentlemen!
